First Step: Make Sure You've Got a PDF

Make sure the PDF is part of the record in RefWorks.  You can tell this by either clicking on the title and seeing if an image of it shows up in the upper right screen, or looking for a small icon under the title.  

    In this example, the top two have PDFs while the third does not.

 

How to Highlight Text

To highlight:
  • select the reference and click the "Read" button in the viewing pane. The document will display in the reader. 
  • select the text you want to highlight (mouse over it while holding down the right mouse button)
  • click on the highlight icon
  • your highlighting is automatically saved.

 

 

How to Annotate

How to Annotate:

  • select the reference and click the "Read" button in the viewing pane. The document will display in the reader.  
  • select the text you want to comment on  (mouse over it while holding down the right mouse button).
  • then click the word Comment icon.
  • your comments are automatically saved.

 

And more....

  • You may also click and drag using the Comment icon  to highlight the text and associate a comment with it.
  • You can change the color of your note and the associated highlighted text, edit your note or you can delete your note completely by clicking on the three dots at the far right in the note.
  • A note indicator will also appear to the far right of the selected area and you may access the note in the manner as well.
