RefWorks can be used to help simplify citation management for both large-scale projects and smaller research projects. If you need to input a small number of citations, here are some easy ways to do that. All of these options assume that you have a RefWorks account. If you do not, click on "RefWorks" from the library home page and then click "Create an Account."
Did you find an article online? If you find an interesting article, here are three easy ways to import a single article into RefWorks.
When you know the title or DOI of the article you need:
- Login to RefWorks
- Choose "Add" (the + icon") then choose "Create Reference Manually."
- A new area will appear to the right of the screen. Using the drop-down box, make sure you are filling in the "Journal Article" field. Type in the title of the article.
- When the title is entered, click the lightning bolt icon to the right.
- The bottom will populate with options for your article. Choose the correct one, and the rest of the fields will auto-populate .Click "Save."
- Your article has been imported into RefWorks.
From PubMed:
- Navigate to the PubMed page where you see the article's abstract.
- Click "Save To" then choose "Citation Manager." A file will be created and will be in your Downloads folder.
- Login to RefWorks. Choose "Add" (the + icon) then "Import References."
- Find your file in your Downloads folder and click "Open."
- Your article has been imported into RefWorks.
Do you already have a PDF saved?
If so, you can upload those PDFs into RefWorks and it will automatically create a citation.
- Login to RefWorks
- Click the Add button (the + icon)
- Click "Upload Document"
- You will be brought to your online folders. Choose the document you want and click "Open."
- Your article has been uploaded into RefWorks.
