Exporting Formats

PubMed allows users to select various exporting file formats. Those formats include:

  • PubMed - This is PubMed's format for exporting database search results to citation managers such as Covidence, RefWorks, Endnotes, Zotero, or Mendeley.
  • PMID - this will download a text file with only the PMID of the selected articles
  • Summary (text) - this will download the citation of the articles selected
  • Abstract (text) - this will download the citation of the articles selected and its full abstract
  • CSV - this provides a spreadsheet, a portion of which is shown below. This can be very useful in quickly reviewing the chosen citations, as the full abstract is available for quick perusal.

How to Export

Once you have performed your search, you will need to identify the articles you wish to export. This can be be done by selecting articles individually, multiple at a time, or your entire clipboard. If you need a reminder on how to use your clipboard, check out:

Then you will follow these steps to export your selection(s).

1. Click "save"

2. This will open a pop-up window that will allow you select multiple options. Here is where you can also select to export all results. You will also be asked to choose what format you wish your exports to be in. If you're unsure of which one to choose, check out Exporting Formats.

Once you have made the appropriate selection(s), you will then click "create file".

This should successfully download your file in your desired format!
