This guide provides information on using the library's resources to perform research in speech-language pathology and audiology.

Sharing

RefWorks allows for sharing with other RUSH affiliates - and even colleagues outside your institution!   You can share an entire folder so that colleagues can see your citations and add their own.  You can also send a file containing your citations to a colleague so they can open it in a different citation manager (for example, if someone in your group is using EndNote, Zotero or Covidence).

To share a folder:

  • Each person you share with will need a RefWorks account
  • First create the folder that everyone will be sharing
  • Open the folder, and click the word "Share" (in the toolbar along the top)
  • Choose "Share Folder"
  • Go to "Shared With" and type in the email addresses of the people you with to share with.  This is the last set of options but you can ignore the ones above it.
  • Click on the appropriate sharing permission level - you want "Can MODIFY" if you want your colleagues to be able to add citations
  • Click "Share Folder" and an email will be sent to the addresses you specified, with a link to join the folder.  As long as your colleagues have a RefWorks account they will be able to open the folder, see the citations already in it, and add citations to it.  NOTE:  sometimes it takes up to 10-15 minutes for this link to appear in their email inbox.
  • Everyone can now add citations to the folder (for instructions on how to do this, follow the steps for "Adding Citations and PDFs" in the links to the left)

To share citations:

  • First create the folder whose contents you'd like to share, and add citations to it.
  • When you're ready to share its contents, open the folder and click the word "Share" (in the toolbar along the top)
  • Choose "Export References"
  • Choose the format you want (RIS is most popular) and then Export.
  • A file will be created that contains your citations.  It will be in your Downloads folder and will probably also appear in the grey bar along the bottom of your screen.  You can forward this file to your colleague, who should be able to import it into their citation manager.
