What's new in the 2023 policy?

The 2023 sharing policy is entirely new. Some of the  more important changes in the new policy (effective Jan 25, 2023) include:

  Prior to Jan 25, 2023 New policy effective Jan 25, 2023
Budget Budgets over $500,000 All NIH-funded projects; no budget restrictions
Included information Brief

Robust, detailed;  specific information required, including these six elements:

  • data type
  • related tools, software and/or code
  • metadata and data standards
  • data preservation, access and associated timelines
  • access, distribution or reuse considerations
  • oversight of data management and sharing
