Guide to using the Cochrane Library database for research

Exporting Formats

The Cochrane Library allows users to select various exporting file formats. Those formats include:

  • Plain text - this will download a text file with the metadata of the selected articles(s)
  • RIS (EndNote) - this will download an RIS file compatible with EndNote
  • RIS (Reference Manager) - this will download an RIS file compatible with other reference managers like RefWorks, Zotero, Covidence, etc.
  • RIS (ProCite) - this will download an RIS file compatible with ProCite
  • BibTex - this will download a file compatible with LaTeX Editor
  • CSV - this provides a spreadsheet. This can be very useful in quickly reviewing the chosen citations, as the full abstract is available for quick perusal.

How to Export

Once you have performed your search, you will need to identify the articles you wish to export. This can be done by selecting articles individually, multiple at a time, or your entire results.

Then you will follow these steps to export your selection(s).

1. After selecting the article(s), you wish to save, you will click "Export Selected Citation(s)"

2. This will open a pop-up window that will allow you select multiple options. You will be asked to choose what format you wish your exports to be in. If you're unsure of which one to choose, check out Exporting Formats.

Once you have made the appropriate selection(s), you will then click "Download".

This should successfully download your file in your desired format!
