Free and Open Access Resources

Background

What are "Open Access" and "freely available" resources, and why do I need them?

These terms refer to information that has been made freely available to the public, such as research articles, data, images, works of fiction, and many more. Many research articles are published with an open access model, which means that you do not have to have a subscription to view the article.

Many major funding institutions now require Open Access, including branches of the federal government and many philanthropic institutions such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Copyright restrictions may still apply to open access articles.

This guide will provide links to sources of open access articles.
