This library orientation is geared toward nurses conducting research via the Rush Library.

Overview of Library Orientation

In this guide you will learn how to:

  • access the library's electronic resources off-campus.
  • effectively search the libraries electronic databases using controlled vocabulary (i.e. MeSH, CINAHL headings, and other thesauri).
  • import and cite your reference in RefWorks Citation Manager.

You will learn what resources and services are available to you such as:

  • requests for library instruction sessions;
  • tools for clinical care;
  • and assistance with your systematic review search.

How to Use this Guide

This guide has been designed in order to assist users with using resources in the Library of the Rush University Medical Center. Begin with Module 1, which reviews where items are located on the Library's website and how to access them. Module 4, provides step by step instruction for constructing an effective literature search in our most frequently used databases (i.e. CINAHL, PubMed, and Scopus). Module 5, will provides information you need to organize your references, generate your in-text citations, and create a bibliography using RefWorks. In Module 6, we will review how to select a journal for publication, open access publishing, and predatory journals. The library subscribes to tools such as Incites Journal Citation Reports and Ulrich's Periodical Directory, which can be used to research specific journal titles.
